How long does it take to correct the posture?

I feel my posture is getting worse recently.....

So, let's correct my posture!

Wait....

How long does it take to correct the posture?

Hi, I will answer this question, I am a physical therapist and fitness trainer, Ikuko Murata.

1. How long does it take to correct the bad posture?

The answer is "2 years" at least.

It is impossible to change the posture so immediately.

But it means if you try 2 years, you can change the posture absolutely.

When I knew this, I had the hope that I could change the posture.

2. Why 2years?

~The relation of the posture and the length of the soft tissue~

The posture is the alignment of the bone.

When you want to change the posture, you have to consider about the soft tissue around the bone, for example muscle, ligament, skin and so on.

When the posture gets worse, these soft tissue's length fit to the bad posture.

This means the soft tissue's length adjust to the bad posture and it can't fit to the good posture.

3. Why 2years?

~What happens in the soft tissue when the posture gets worse~

Do you know what happens when the length of the soft tissue gets changed?

Each cell's length gets changed?

No, the amount of the cells gets changed.

When the soft tissue's length gets long, the amount of the cell increases.

And when it gets short, the amount of the cells decreases.

In this way, the soft tissue adjusts to the bone alignment.

For example, if it is a good posture...

Back side and belly side are the same length and there are 10 cells each.

From this good posture, when the spine gets bent, the belly side length gets short and the back side gets long.

But the amount of cells can not change immediately. So in the belly side, 10 cells are compressed, and in the back side, 10 cells are stretched.

If the spine is bent continuously in daily life, the back side will request an increase of cells, and the belly side will request to reduce the cells.

Summarizing the above,

When your spine gets bent, the back side soft tissue increases the amount of the cells because of the stretching stimulation, and the belly side soft tissue reduces the amount of the cells because of the compression stimulation.

We can call this system "tissue length's adjustment".

In this way, our tissue can adjust to the good posture and also bad posture.

4. Why 2years?

~The way of returning the length of soft tissue when the posture gets better~

If you correct the posture suddenly, the amount of the cells in the belly side are not enough, and the amount of the cells in back side are too much.

The amount of the cells can not change so soon.

We have to give the stretching stimulation to the belly side in order to increase the cells persistently, and also we have to give the compression stimulation to the back side in order to reduce the cells persistently.

Summarizing the above,

if you want to correct the posture, you have to change the soft tissue's length from the amount of the cells which has already adjusted to the bad posture.

5.Why 2years?

~About the Reincarnation of the cell~

Do you know when the soft tissue's cells can change the amount?

The answer is when the cells are reborn.

So in this section, let's consider about the cell's rebirth.

Our body's cells are remade everyday.

Our old cells are broken, and thrown away as trash outside from our body.

After that, in the same place new cells are born and replaced.

This new cells are totally different from old cells.

This is a "cell's Destruction" and a "cell's Replacement".

This "cell's Destruction" and "cell's Replacement" happen everyday little by little in our body.

In this way, the soft tissue changes and adjusts the length.

6.Why 2 years?

~Term of all of the cell's rebirth in soft tissue~

Do you know how long does it take for all of the cells to be reborn in the soft tissue?

The answer is about "half a year".

(Of course it depends on each tissues or age or body condition....)

So it means if you want to change the length of the soft tissue, you need to approach it at least half a year.

But do you think it is enough?

To be exact, only half a year (1set) is not enough.

At least 3 sets is necessary.

So 3 sets is about 2 years.

So this is the reason why I said that it needs at least 2 years to correct the posture.

How do you feel about knowing this?

Do you feel it is too long?

Honestly 2 years is long, but this means if you do the training for 2 years you can change the posture definitely.

7. I tried the exercise for 2 years

In my case...

I tried for more than 2 years and my body has changed little by little.

But still I haven't reached the goal.

The reason is "I am a lazy person 8->".

So what I want to say is... if you know you are lazy, maybe it will take more than 2 years to correct the posture, but your body can change little by little eventually.

8. Summary

・To correct the posture, it takes 2 years at least.

・If your posture is bad for a long time, the soft tissue around the bone will adjust its length to the bad posture.

・To correct the soft tissue's length from the amount of the cells, it takes about half a year and3sets (about 2 years) according to the term of the cell's destruction and replacement.

・Additionally, if you are lazy like me, 2 years is difficult. But you can change your posture little by little eventually.
